6 ways your bible is better than your smartphone

The world we live in today is so much different than it was 30 years ago. In the 1980s when cell phones were the new shiny gadget on the block, they were half the size of a lunch box, had a battery that could weigh three pounds, and had an antenna sticking out of them that was the length of your hand. The idea that you could ever do anything except talk on them if you were lucky enough to get reception, was a wild dream. How things have changed!

Today, the cell phone has evolved into the smartphone. Not only can you talk on them, but you can also send text messages, watch videos, browse the internet, play video games, and more. The trouble is that people are so addicted to them that they even intrude on social settings. People have even been known to text each other while in the same room. So what does all of this have to do with the Bible, you ask?

Well, here are some ways that the Bible is similar to but better, than our smartphones.
  1. People talk to us through our smartphone.
God speaks to us through the Bible.
  2. If you get lost, the GPS in your smartphone can help you find your way.
If you’re spiritually lost, the Bible will help you find the narrow path that leads to eternal life.
  3. You can use the browser in your smartphone to learn a world of things.
You can use the Bible to learn about the kingdom of God.
  4. You can use your smartphone to get the weather forecast.
You can read the Bible to learn the signs of the end times.
  5. You can use your smartphone to arrange for all kinds of sin.
You can use your Bible to learn how to break the bonds of sin and live the way God intended.
  6. You can use your smartphone to make dinner reservations.
Your Bible will show you how to reserve your place with the almighty God in eternity.

So, what do you think would happen if we started using our Bibles like we use our smartphones?

I think we'd be much better off, don’t you?

In case you're wondering, I do realize that you can install a Bible app on your smartphone. There are several great ones out there that are totally free and some you can get for a nominal fee. I've installed the free ones on my friend's smartphones and encouraged them to use them. I hope you will do the same!

I've got these Bible apps installed on my smartphone:
  • The MacArthur Study Bible
  • The Swindol Study Bible
  • Logos Faithlife Bible
  • Bible Gateway
  • ESV Bible
  • YouVersion
Do you have a favorite Bible app?  Let me know in the comments section below.

May God richly bless you and your family as you meditate on His word,
