You are the light of the world

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12

Jesus also said that we are the light of the world.

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

When we spend time in the presence of God, spending time in prayer, and meditating on God’s word, the result is that God can shine His light through us into this dark world. That is unless we decide to hide the light. When Moses descended from Mount Sinai after he had spent time in the presence of God, his face shone so brightly that he put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel wouldn’t be afraid. (Exodus 34:29-35)

As Christians, if we invest in a relationship with Jesus, by spending time in His word and by spending time with Him in prayer, people notice it in our lives. This is because investing in a relationship with Jesus changes us. If we truly love God with all our heart, we’ll be different from other people and God’s light will be seen in our lives. Our love for God results in good works that we do out of the abundance of love and gratitude for the one who redeemed us.

Some people don’t want any part of what we have. Some of them are afraid that we’ll make them feel uncomfortable in their sins. But as Christians, we need to shine our light anyway. But only in the most gracious way possible.
