We are all slaves

While warning of false prophets and false teachers, the Apostle Peter wrote “They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved” (2 Peter 2:19 ESV). You see, Peter understood that everyone is a slave to whatever they give themselves over to, whether they make themselves a slave to righteousness or to sin.
Jesus said “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin".
John 8:34 ESV
The Apostle John warned that those who continue sinning are not a member of the body of Christ and therefore are not saved.
No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:6 (ESV)
The Apostle Paul understood that we’re either a slave to righteousness or sin when he wrote the following:
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:16-18 (ESV)
Paul also understood the benefit of being a slave to God, which leads to righteousness. This, of course, is the opposite of willfully practicing sin.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
Romans 6:22 (NIV)
My friends, we all have a decision to make when we decide to follow Christ. We must decide if we’re going to continue in the sinful ways of the world or if we’re going to be obedient slaves to God. A non-decision is in effect a decision to keep living in sin.

We’re not supposed to stay the same as we were before we were saved. The Lord expects us to give our lives over to Him and to become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV).

As Bob Dylan once sang, "You gotta serve somebody....".  The decision you need to make each day is, are you going to serve your fleshly desires or are you going to serve the Lord?

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit,
Daniel
